Ephesians 2:10

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Scripture Insights
The features that define us—our talents, temperaments, and uniqueness—don’t occur by accident. We are custom-made by God. Some translations of Ephesians 2:10 have Paul stating that we are God’s masterpiece. The term in Greek is poiema—the root of our English word “poem.” A poem epitomizes elegance in its thoughtful articulation, structured layout, and choice use of words. The rhythm of every line and the deliberate selection of every word unite to enrich the overall understanding. The creation of such artistry reflects the poet’s expertise, purpose, and attention to detail.
God’s craftsmanship is evident in each one of us as he uses his divine abilities to mold our traits and give us our unique looks and capabilities. Paul emphasizes that God’s plan for us isn’t an afterthought. Instead, it is a blueprint, designed before time began, “before the creation of the world” (Ephesians 1:4).
Embrace your uniqueness as God’s handiwork, God’s masterpiece, and use it to illuminate your community. Your distinct talents and abilities are a gift designed to be shared. Whether through art, leadership, compassion, or intellect, your contributions can inspire others, foster unity, and be a tangible blessing to those around you. You’re custom-made for purpose!

Today’s Prayer
Heavenly Father, may we, as your precious works of art, realize that you do not love us because we are valuable. Instead, may we see that we are valuable because you love us.

What is the Spirit saying to you today?
